Product Description
After his father succumbs to cancer, medical researcher Sloan OHara is determined to find a cure for the disease. He doesnt expect his wife, Ally, to become his research partner, or to be caught up in a world of greed and politics. As their research begins to show promise, outside pressures intensify, and to make matters worse, Ally learns she has a malignant melanoma, as well as being pregnant with their first child. Ally is told that she must have an abortion, followed by chemotherapy and radiation, if she expects to live. Refusing to consider their advice, she is told she might live long enough to deliver, but will undoubtedly face certain death soon after childbirth. This moral and emotional dilemma forces Ally to seek an alternative route, and she begins to pressure her husband into applying his unproven animal research to her.

A unique and interesting way to learn about the medical field October 16, 2007 Mark Cooper 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
What made this novel particularly interesting was the blending of several genres. At its core is a medical thriller, but the story is enriched by elements of political intrigue and high flying business deals.
Subplots develop the reader's interest of important characters while lending additional insights into other facets of medicine--and the author's opinion of them. There are a number of colorful characters and moments that lend timely comic relief. But other characters are more starkly portrayed which gives an allegorical quality to the novel.
That all of this comes from a Doctor with experience as an investigator makes it worthwhile and I've not elsewhere read a member of the profession outline the problems medicine faces with so few apologies.
A thought provoking read... October 15, 2007 A. Belcrest 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
An intriguing distinction made between ethics and morals in medical research/practice...forces us to pause to consider how closely politics is intertwined with life-altering medical research...a thought provoking read with emotional insight...
"The Sixth Cow"........ "WOW" September 26, 2007 A. M. Mianecki 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
As a member of the medical profession, I was impressed by the quality of this medical thriller. The story was full of captivating maneuvers that guided me through the maze of deception, intrigue and mystery.
I enjoyed the suspense, combined with wit, charm and humor. The combination of intresting facts and a beguiling imagination brought the plot to life.
If your looking for a book that has it all, this one is it.
