This manual grater coarsely grinds cheese, chocolate, or garlic with ease. Originally designed for shaving wood, the patented 18/8 stainless-steel Microplane blade has razor-sharp teeth that make grating effortless and that won't clog. The large 5-by-2-1/2-inch grating surface can handle bigger ingredients, such as fresh coconut, and the matching 18/8 stainless-steel frame and satin-finish offer durable support for the blade. The grater has a non-slip rubber grip just above its head to keep it steady on a tabletop during grating. Glad I got the stainless pro series as a friend has one of the plastic handle ones and it is pretty much toast after 3 months of heavy use.
This is just right for most kitchen chores. A little too course for zesting but the Microplane Professional Patented Design Fine Spice Grater is for that. Makes nice sized pieces for salads cakes etc and for melting in hot chocolate. You can even do weird things like grate Ghirardelli Chocolate Assorted Squares Chocolates Gift Bag, 80 pcs. to make different flavored sauces or hot chocolates. Nice for carrots, dakon radish or regular radish etc.
BTW with this it isn't necessary to have the chocolate at just the right temperature it can be chilled (still works best with the temperature between 65 and 75F depending on the chocolate). For fancy curls the Norpro Chocolate/Truffle Shaver 7.25-in. works much better; although, those of us classically trained will use a knife.
BTW these are well packaged with the plastic cover acting as part of the package.

Not too much you can say about a grater, however, I will tell you that this grater is of excellent quality! This grater is going nowhere... it may just be the last one you will ever need. Very sturdy construction, very sharp blade, in fact, they even give you a guard to use on it. To sum up... the grater came on time. I thought it was a reasonable price for the quality that it is and therefore I can say that I am perfectly happy with this purchase. Do not hesitate to order it if you are thinking about it... you won't be sorry!

Have had this grater for a couple weeks now and have used it to grate hard cheeses,(ie.parmesan, romano, etc) and it's been perfecto every time. The size of the grating is just right, the blades are very sharp and cut clean, and clean up is a breeze. Haven't used it to zest anything yet but I'm sure that I won't be disappointed. If you're looking for a desent grater then this is it.

First impression was WOW..that is alot of money for a grater!!
Like the idea it allowed shaving in both directions.
Ordered it ..hoping it would be close to worth the money.
Now..I love grated cheese...Usually the stuff you buy is grated in
clumps. That has all changed. This grater creates RIBBONS of cheese..
In BOTH directions. Beautiful presentation when plated.
Never thought I would say that I LOVED a grater...but I could
not do without this one now!!
