3 out of 5 stars Powerful beater   March 6, 2010
Paula (Wisconsin)
There certainly seems to be enough power to beat even the heaviest ingredients. However, it really does not have a low speed for adding in new ingredients. I need to hold the bowl and use care so that the batter does not shoot out.
It sure makes quick work of egg whites, though.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent - sturdy, efficient hand -mixer   February 21, 2010
Judith Barr (Portland, Oregon)
When my hand-mixer finally gave up the ghost, I read the pros and cons of many available current brands and models, and went into Macy's to check out what they carried.
I chose this one because it's

[1] three speeds are sufficient for all my cooking needs.
[2] beaters have a large surface area, so it whips rapidly.
[3[ well-balanced and stands easily on its end.
[4] easy to clean.
[5] sturdy.
[6] an excellent value.

I make a lot of pavlovas [an Aussie dessert that begins with a huge mass of egg-whites - sometimes a dozen]. As they expand, the beaten whites creep up the beaters, and onto the base of the mixer.
Beaters need to be 2" longer - BUT these are the longest on the market.

3 out of 5 stars good for the price   December 14, 2009

I've had this mixer for a while. I've made gluten-free bread with it, which means it's not as tough as regular bread, but it does climb. I like the long beaters because of that--they are long enough to keep my bread dough out of the casing. Overall, I like it. I don't mind the extra speed--you might need to stir things up a little before you start beating, and yeah, a splatter guard might be a good idea.
The reason I'm giving it three stars is tonight I tried to make gingerbread cookie dough with it. It's gluten free, again, so it shouldn't be anywhere near as tough as a wheat flour-based dough would have been, but my beaters bent all to heck. The bars were twisted all around like they'd been in a tornado. I don't mind awfully much shelling out the $15 for new beaters--it beats buying a whole new mixer, but it stings anyway. The beaters should be at least strong enough to handle what the motor can dish out.

4 out of 5 stars Great Mixer for the Kitchen   December 5, 2009

This mixer is designed with the low speed that is too fast. Otherwise, it is a good mixer, although the low speed needs to be much lower to be useful.

5 out of 5 stars Great Buy   November 29, 2009

This little jewel is an excellent hand mixer. It is one of the most powerful small hand mixer I have ever used. The lowest speed is a tad fast if your not ready for it and has a lot of torque. Just made three batches of persimmon cookies and it made short work of the puree and batter containing raisins and walnuts. All on the lowest speed. The way it sits up by it self is another plus. The beaters are easily insertable and eject nicely with the button release. The beaters are very solid and are of good quality. Highly recommended at this low price.
