Remember, it's Red Baron "Arcade" June 25, 2008 H. N. Dohe (My Sanctum Sanctorium) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
And like most Arcade games, it's not meant to be realistic. Your POV is from behind the airplane. You are given an assignment (take out a convoy, destroy a fort, etc) which you and your squadron need to complete. If you are shot down, or don't complete your mission successfully (for example, if the bombers you're escorting get shot down or you get shot down), the mission ends. There are transparent balloons that you can fly through to restore your ammo and "life support" levels. There are some features, like "zoom", that are totally unrealistic (I pushed this button, and the plane went into this high speed loop. There were streams flowing from my wingtips!). There is often a secret to accomplishing a mission that you have to find by trial and error. I found in one scenario that required me to destroy some ground targets that the best thing to do was first take out their air support. Your fighters will not give you enough cover. Which leads to another frustrating aspect- you have to start the mission all over if you don't accomplish it, which gets tiring by your 7th try. I guess I was looking for an updated Red Baron game, but this ain't it. However, kids under the age of 8 might like it.
Reb Baron Arcade?? April 29, 2008 John S. Linton (Perry, Fl) 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
I had high hopes for this game and dont get me wrong its ok but its not the old red baron. The perspective is always behind the plane unless you decide to go 1st person then its just a sight. Its like blazing angels just not as good graphicly. My 6 year old likes it and I can play but dont buy it thinking its red baron 2.
