Amazon.com Product Description Bejeweled Twist from PopCap is the most ambitious follow-up yet to the Bejeweled franchise of games. The original Bejeweled was the game that launched the "casual gaming" craze, with game mechanics that anyone can pick up and enjoy, and now with Bejeweled Twist, PopCap has added more depth and strategy with a twisting maneuver. |

Play four different modes: Classic, Challenge, Zen and Blitz. View larger. | A New Twist on the Wildly Popular Game PopCap has sold more than 25 million Bejeweled games, with over 350 million copies downloaded, making it one of the most successful game franchises in history. Bejeweled Twist was four years in the making, and brings an exciting spin on the classic gameplay: instead of dragging the jewels around, you rotate them. The goal is still to create a line of three or more identical jewels, and each successive turn in which you do so gives you a multiplier for even more points. A key difference from the older games is that you don't have to make a match with every turn. The graphics have been updated as well, with new backgrounds and animations. The graphics are crisper and more modern while still retaining the fun, colorful look of the old games. The new game exhibits a high level of polish and production values, including nice animations in between levels, fun explosion effects when power-ups are used, and extras like being able to watch an instant replay of high-scoring matches. Four Different Play Modes Bejeweled Twist features four different play modes: Classic, Challenge, Zen and Blitz. Classic mode lets you progress through increasingly difficult levels where you try to create jewel chains before a bomb detonates. Challenge mode creates specific tasks for you to complete, such as destroying ten gems in one move. In Blitz mode, you frantically try to accumulate as many points as you can within a certain amount of time. And in Zen mode, you can play a relaxing game without any obstacles or timers. There are various power-ups that can be used for higher scores, such as a lightning gem, which you'll receive by matching five gems at once. The lightning gem then eliminates the entire vertical or horizontal column or row where the gem is located. When a you get consecutive matches to max out the chain meter, you'll receive a fruit gem that destroys all same-colored gems. Like all great puzzle games, you'll be surprised how fast that time flies while playing Bejeweled Twist. | System Requirements | | | Minimum | Recommended | | Operating System | PC: Windows XP/Vista | | CPU | 1. 2GHz or faster | | Sound | Direct X 8 compatible sound card and drivers | Direct X 9. 0c compatible sound card and drivers | | Memory | 256 MB | 512+ MB | | Other Requirements | Internet connection is required to register the game. |

A Gem of a game January 2, 2009 drebbles (Arlington, MA USA) "Bejeweled Twist" is the third game in the Bejeweled game series and it does indeed feature a twist (more than one in fact). The biggest twist is that instead of exchanging two gems to match three or more gems of the same color, you rotate four gems to make the match. There are four types of games to play - Zen, Classic, Blitz, and Challenge. There are also bonuses within the games - for example if you match four gems in a row you get a "fire" gem that clears lots of gems at once (including the pesky "coal" gems that can't be matched); match five gems in a row and you get a "lightning" gem that eliminates an entire row and column. Another challenge is to clear four specific colors in four successive moves. Other things included are hints at the start of the game and an instant replay after matching a lot of gems.
"Bejeweled Twist" offers a little bit of something for everyone. Zen is the most relaxing of the four games - there is no time limit, no bombs, no locked gems, just switching gems. Blitz (which you have to unlock to play) is the opposite of Zen - you have five minutes to score as many points as you can. Classic is somewhat similar to Zen as it is untimed, but it offers several twists that make the game more challenging. The most challenging part is the "bomb" gems that you must destroy before the timer on the bomb runs out. This is easy to do at first, but becomes more challenging the more you play as more bombs drop down and you have less time to destroy them. If the bomb does go off, you have a second chance with a slot machine/spinning wheel type of game that becomes harder to win the more you play it. If you do win, you can go back to the game in progress but if you lose, you go back to the first level which can be very frustrating. Adding to the difficulty is gems that "lock" and cannot be rotated. They can be destroyed by matching gems, but they can get in the way when you are trying to destroy the bomb. Also, there is a multiplier which, if you can get to the 10x multiplier, will get you a fruit gem which does some neat stuff. Finally, there is the Challenge mode, that has several categories of challenges that you gradually unlock as you play: Detonator; Spectrum; Coal Mine; Preserver; Fire Storm; Chain Reaction; Arsenal; Stratamax; Voltage; Bonanza; Survivor, Gem Fall; and Enigma. These are indeed challenging, featuring tasks such as destroying a certain amount of gems in one move or keeping a certain amount of the same color gems in the playing field.
It took me a while to get into the rhythm of playing "Bejeweled Twist" and initially I didn't like the twisting feature at all. Now, however, I'm hooked - "Bejeweled Twist" can be very addicting. I alternate mostly between the Classic and Challenge games as being my favorite with a slight lean towards the Challenge games. The graphics are awesome and it's fun watching the gems explode. It's not perfect - it is a bit slow starting up and it is slow when trying to change players and it takes a while to master the twisting and getting into the flow of the game. Still once you get hooked it is hours of addicting fun.
Great successor to one of the best time-killers ever January 1, 2009 Mary Jo Sminkey (Carlisle, PA USA) I've been playing Bejeweled and then Bejeweled 2 for many years, both on my PC but more often on my PDA or Smartphone. It's just a great time-killer and also a great game to hand to friends who want to try it out, as it needs 30 seconds to explain how to play. But having played it for so long, it's time for something different, and Bejeweled Twist hits that mark perfectly.
The game play in this reminded me a lot of a cross between Bejeweled 2 and Chuzzle, another favorite PopCap game of mine. It requires a bit more thought and strategy in moving than Bejeweled and has elements from Chuzzle like locked pieces but definitely is a different game, as rather than moving entire rows (or single pieces as in Bejeweled) you are basically turning groups of four in order to get them lined up for matches. It definitely takes a bit getting used to and is not quite as "mindless" as playing Bejeweled.
The graphics and music are top-notch. Some nice 3-D space animations to move from board to board and the music is just right for background (and gets more energetic as you have bombs ticking down). The different game play modes will suit just about anyone and the game is appropriate for a very wide range of ages. I'm not a fan of countdown speed games but Classic is a good challenge for me while not being an endless game like Zen mode.
Overall, I'd highly recommend this game to any fan of the previous Bejeweled games. I'm not sure I'd start with this one if you haven't played the original ones first, but either way, you will have a great game to play.
A Fun and Safe Game for Kids (and Maybe Some Adults too) December 30, 2008 Vesta Irene (the Pacific Northwest) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I got this game for my grandson to play when he was over. I'm not a big believer in video games, but sometimes I just need a break and if I have to let my darling alone on my computer for an hour or so till I catch my breath, well it won't harm him. Not at least if the game is fun and not one of those that is all about shooting, killing and car stealing.
Do I know how to play the game? No. Will I learn? Probably not. But my grandson picked it up straightaway. I can see that the graphics are eye-catching and stunning and the game holds his interest and nobody dies, there is no blood spilling out of bodies, no police chasing computer car jackers. This is a fun and safe game your young children can play, one they enjoy playing. Five stars from me all the way.

Addictive and fun December 28, 2008 Michael T. Rognlien (Chicago, IL USA) Once you play the 'full' version of ANY of PopCap's games - Bejeweled included - you will be hard-pressed to ever settle for the free versions online (Yahoo, MSN, etc) again.
Pretty much everyone on the planet has played at least the free version of Bejeweled, but this version is so much more fun. You have several different play options, new tricks and tools, and the graphics are just 1000x better/more interesting than the free version.
If you like the free versions but get frustrated when your game 'maxes out' on levels or at the lack of features, it is well worth the money to buy this here or download it from one of the many game sites that feature the free version.
More fun than the original December 28, 2008 Bobby W. (USA) I played the original Bejeweled game on my Palm Zire, and I'm assuming that the gameplay was the same on different platforms.
The original game was fun for a while, but it seemed to be more luck oriented than skill/strategy oriented, because you didn't have much control over the position of the jewels. Plus, there was only one game mode (at least with the Palm version).
Bejeweled Twist has many significant improvements that make the original game concept a lot more fun.
First, and most important is that you now rotate groups of jewels to create matches. The jewels are rotated clockwise only, in groups of four. This change gives you more ability to develop a strategy than the original game, which just allowed you to swap two jewels at a time (at least with the Palm version).
The "twist" concept also gave the game designers the freedom to create a number of different game modes, so Bejeweled Twist offers something for everyone. The Classic Mode is a lot of fun because it becomes more challenging at each successive level and ends when your skill and luck run out.
Challenge Mode may appeal to people who like solving puzzles, allowing you to unlock new challenges as you progress.
In Zen Mode, you can zone out and make endless matches, sort-of the electronic equivalent of popping bubble wrap.
If you thrive on playing under a time constraint, there is a five-minute Blitz Mode.
The graphics are very snappy, and the game runs on Vista(Home Premium)without a hitch.
If you liked the original Bejeweled, you'll have a blast with Bejeweled Twist.
