5 out of 5 stars A great ride for commuting across campus   November 9, 2008
Luke T. Robinson (Grand Rapids, MI United States)
I purchased my Go-Ped Know-Ped kick scooter in September 2008. As a grown adult, this scooter has been wonderful. The strong construction, light weight, wide deck, and front and rear brakes make commuting across campus a breeze. It really felt good to pass a jogger on my way back to the office. Bonus, the scooter is compact enough to stash in the corner when not in use.

Cheers,
Luke

5 out of 5 stars Best scooter ever!   October 22, 2008

I am supremely happy with the GoPed. I live and work in my neighborhood in NYC, and I wanted a scooter for travel to work. I have owned other scooters, Razor-type with rollerblade type wheels, and I found them to be dangerous and destructible. The wheels would catch easily over bumps in sidewalk, or skid on grease spills, etc. I'm lucky to be alive. But with the Go Ped, I can safely ride on the sidewalks, the rubber wheels make for a smooth ride. And there is plenty of room for both feet on the base-board, which is very comfortable. It is also very durable and I expect to be using my scooter for a long time. Also you can't beat the price! Other adult scooters sold in the city are overpriced, in my opinion. It is highly worth the wait to buy this one online, (as I haven't found it retail). Did I mention the handle break? Awesome! The look is also very retro-cool, and you can choose from many colors. I haven't seen anyone else in NYC with this scooter yet and I am surprised, it's the best scooter ever, an I am surprised more people don't use it for transport. It's also just a lot of fun to ride, good exercise, and keeps me young. When you see me in NYC on my blue Go-Ped, be sure to say hi.

3 out of 5 stars Just a little too Big, otherwise great   September 13, 2008

I thought it would be great for short distances to get to the train. I wanted something that I thought would have a smooth ride. The Go-Ped is very smooth to ride. It great. And, it is especially fun to ride with a slight downgrade. But, its also too bulky for commuting! It's really! pushing it to sit on a bus or train seat with someone next to you. On a really crowded train its just too big. And the reviewer who commented that it doesn't stand up is absolutely right. The problem presents itself even when trying to rest it at your feet. Its got to lean out a bit to rest on anything other than the wheel. Lastly while its fun, it was also more work than I thought for the speed. Frankly, I'd almost rather run (but, then I'm a runner). And, to be clear, I don't think this is a bad scooter at all!! Its just too big relative to what I was looking for.

4 out of 5 stars Love this 'Grown-Up' scooter!   September 11, 2008

I'm a 43 year old mom and nurse and I'd been riding my son's Razor and almost killing myself when those tiny wheels hit a bump or a hole. Then I bought the Know-Ped and life became fun again! Yes, it's bigger and heavier, but that's okay . . . I'm bigger and heavier than a 9 year-old. I like that I can put my feet side by side while coasting and I feel oh-so-much-more stable. It folds down and hooks together nicely and you get a little biceps work out while carrying it! I keep it in my trunk and ride it from where I have to park my car to where I work in San Francisco . . quick, fun, good exercise. Highly recommended!

3 out of 5 stars Go-Ped vs. Xooter Mg   August 21, 2008
Greensteves (Walnut Creek, CA United States)
5 out of 5 found this review helpful

In many ways, the Xooter Mg is superior, except for a key feature, smoothness of ride. You have to be willing to accept a fairly rough ride, due to the harder wheels that give greater speed, in order to use the Xooter.

The Know-Ped offers a fairly smooth ride, as long as you don't go over major bumps or holes. This is a major advantage. However, it has the following issues:

1) The handle bar isn't high enough for taller people, and isn't adjustable. I'm 6'1/2", and could use a handlebar that is at least 2 inches higher, in order to be able to stand fully upright on the Know-Ped. It's probably just the right height for someone 5'7" to 5'10". A smaller person might want to try the Growped. By contrast, the Xooter has an adjustable handlebar that can cover a wide range of heights.

2) The locking mechanism for the Knowped when folded is fairly primitive, a little hook on the handlebar that hooks into the rear fender, but will easily unhook, if not held in a horizontal position. The Xooter takes a little longer to fold and lock, but it completely locks and won't unlock.

3) The Knowped is heavier than the Xooter, and you definitely feel the difference. But it is manageable to carry, at 12 pounds. It's a bit harder to manuever when walking up or down escalators and avoiding others to your side.

4) As a trade-off for the smooth ride, the Knowped doesn't glide like the Xooter. It takes more work to cover the same distance at equal speed. Again, this is manageable at distances of around a mile, and will give you a good workout. It still will cut significant time off of a walking commute.

5)The Knowped doesn't fold up quite as compactly as a Xooter. However, it still fits fairly well under a train seat, sticking out only a little bit in front, and won't roll away (as another reviewer thought it would).

6)The platform on the Know-ped is 1.25 inches higher than the Xooter platform. This results in substantially more kneeling effort for each push.

7)If you don't like the product, you won't be able to return it, unlike the 30 day satisfaction guarantee that Xooter offers.

It's too bad that one can't put the Knowped's soft wheels on a Xooter's superior frame.
